-Hello and welcome to Tab's tab archive....ahem...
In the early 1970's, it was very difficult to find any sort of instructional material for the dobro. So in the late 80's, I produced a set of courses, just books of tunes and licks, and made a very small business of selling the "Red Hot Dobro" series to people from all over the world. There were two video courses and two cassette tape courses, each accompanied by a tablature book. Combined, I sold around 300 copies.
This was strictly a grass roots operation: a rented video camera, handwritten tablature, and home stereo recording equipment, since computers were just starting to become available. Today new players are fortunate to have a plethora of instructional material to choose from--things us older guys would have given their eye teeth to have when we were starting out.
I make no promises and offer no apologies for the tablature presented here-(heck, it's free!)-there is no timing notated in most of it, and unless you know the tune, you will probably have a harder time of learning it. Bear in mind that I was listening to things like Mike Auldrige's "Dobro" Album, Josh Graves albums, and a lot of Jerry Douglas playing with the White's, so the versions presented here are most likely very close to what these fine fellows were playing. I will try to mention a discography for particular selections. The tablatures appear in their own window so you can check them out, then decide if you want to print them or not. They print out better than some of them appear in the window.
At some point I will try to dub the sound tracks from the course tape to this site. At any rate, I hope these tabs are helpful at least in some small way to some of you. I welcome your feedback. Here's the Guest Book page. The tunes are all in standard bluegrass dobro tuning GBDGBD (low-high).
Thanks, enjoy-Tab Tabscott
